What is a Maritime Constellation?

A Maritime Constellation is a network of autonomous, wave-powered platforms (our xNodes) that provide persistent power and data connectivity in the ocean. It acts as a form of ocean infrastructure, enabling long-duration operations for a wide range of subsea assets, from autonomous vehicles to sensor arrays.

What problem does Dolphin Labs solve?

The primary problem is the lack of persistent power and data at sea. Today, most subsea operations are limited by battery life and the need for costly, crewed surface vessels. Our Maritime Constellation solves this by providing a permanent, autonomous source of power and communication, enabling a new era of long-duration, cost-effective maritime operations.

Who are your primary customers?

We serve three primary markets: Defense & National Security, Science & Environmental, and Offshore Energy. Each of these sectors has a critical need for persistent power and data in the maritime environment.

Technology Questions

How does the xNode generate power?

The xNode uses a proprietary, high-efficiency wave energy converter. It’s a point absorber buoy that moves with the waves, driving an internal power take-off (PTO) system to generate electricity. This power is then stored in onboard batteries and used to power the platform and its payloads.

What makes the xNode different from other wave energy devices?

Three key differentiators: Compact & Lightweight (70% smaller and 50% lighter than comparable systems), Submersibility (the only system that can autonomously submerge to survive extreme storms), and Purpose-Built for Autonomy (designed from the ground up for long-duration autonomous operations, not grid power).

What is the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of the xNode?

The xNode Proto platform has been validated at TRL 6-7 through rigorous at-sea testing with the U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC).

What can you power with an xNode?

An xNode can power a wide range of payloads, including AUV/UUV charging stations, sensor arrays (acoustic, environmental, etc.), cameras, and communication gateways. Our add-on modules (xNode Charge, xNode Sense, xNode Edge) are designed to support these specific applications.
